Who We Are
At the AFRL Regional Hub Network – Midwest, we are dedicated to developing next-generation research and technology to support the Air Force mission by providing analysis, development, and testing capabilities that span multiple science and engineering disciplines. From propulsion to communications, materials to sensors, our research focuses on advancing mission capability and accelerating technology transitions throughout the life cycle of programs.
At the Midwest Hub Network, we understand the importance of collaboration in advancing technology and mission capability. We facilitate partnerships between industry and academia to develop new means to address current and future needs of our customers.

Our Mission

Our Mission
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Regional Hub Network – Midwest at Purdue University is a pilot initiative designed to create a new science and technology ecosystem for partners from universities, businesses, government agencies, and venture capitalists.
The Midwest Hub Network will enable AFRL scientists and engineers to engage and collaborate with regional ecosystems. Together, they will address defense-related issues by providing workforce development opportunities for AFRL scientists and engineers. Regional research hubs will aim to leverage research, translation, and workforce success while integrating stakeholders to encourage meaningful innovation in science and technology.

Our Vision
Our Vision
The vision for the Midwest Hub Network is multifaceted. We look to leverage research, translation, and workforce development successes across the region, and also to integrate diverse stakeholders. We want to create a culture of mission-driven, vertically cohesive innovation that facilitates new teams, processes, and exchanges that leapfrog current systems to ensure Air Force and Space Force dominance.
To achieve this, we will embrace a “design, build, test” framework that pilots different programs and practices – at scale and with speed.

Innovation & Commercialization
Innovation & Commercialization
Purdue University’s focus on energetic materials, hypersonics, and microelectronics provides the perfect opportunity to partner with Midwest Hub Network to create a new science and technology ecosystem that fosters innovation and commercialization opportunities. Through these collaborations, AFRL scientists and engineers and partner teams gain access to unique facilities, expertise, and equipment designed to take technology and innovations to the next level.
Outcomes

Outcomes
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Regional Hub Network – Midwest at Purdue University is dedicated to developing strong relationships between AFRL scientists and engineers and partners to address defense-related issues – a collaboration will provide access to valuable resources as well as seedling funding for projects. The regional research hubs will also integrate stakeholders, encouraging science and technology exchanges and driving innovation. AFRL will then gain access to new technologies and ideas that lets it accelerate the translation of science and technology to the warfighter and commercial markets. This brings significant benefits to AFRL, the Air Force, and the Defense Department.
