Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) is a DoD Scholarship Program for STEM Students. The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. Scholarship recipients receive full tuition, annual stipends, internships, and guaranteed employment with the Department of Defense after graduation. Many SMART Scholars work in AFRL labs alongside AFRL scientists and engineers and participate in AFRL Regional Network – Midwest projects. In fact, Dr. Stacy Manni, the acting director of the AFRL Regional Network – Midwest is a SMART Scholar alum.
